Conditions are close to ideal for the Chilton County peach crop, Superintendent Jim Pitts of the Chilton Research and Extension Center reported.

The crop has received 77 chill hours as of Friday, more than seven times the 10 hours received by this time last year.

Farmers traditionally start counting chill hours the first of October and finish up in mid-February. The target number is 1,000 for most varieties.
While the crop is not in danger yet, the main concern with too many chill hours too quickly is early blooming. For the past two seasons, the problem has been the opposite (not getting enough).

The fat kids of America are developing worse and worse health conditions. What happened to the time that children used to play outside and enjoy home-cooked, healthy meals? Now diabetes and HEART DIESEASE are the health complications of 10-15 year old, instead of 60-70 year olds. Recent studies have shown that many children have the arteries of a 45 year old! As shocking as these results are, what else can American’s expect when we live in a country consumed by McDonalds and Playstation?

Around the world in Africa the ban on Ivory has been temporarily suspended. An auction took place and was quite successful. The participants included South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe, all countries with thriving elephant populations. They sold around 100 tons of the item and made $15 million dollars. They were granted permission after much debate but were met with much disdain. Many people did not approve because of the dwindling elephant populations in Africa but the proceeds from the auction have been designated for the cause of elephant conservation.

For the past few months, gas prices have been taking an extra chunk out of the public’s pockets. This has been a main cause in the slowdown of our economy because the rising prices have exceeded the normal household income.

Through months of consumer conservation, the price of fuel has finally started to fall. The state average as of yesterday was $2.22 a gallon. AAA spokesman Clay Ingram said some places around the state were seeing prices under $2 a gallon yesterday.

“With people cutting back their travel and their extra expenses, we have really seen a drop in the amount of fuel we are using, which has in return helped to bring down the price that we are having to pay at the pump,” Ingram said.

In Berlin it seems that an American man has been cured of AIDS. He received a bone marrow transplant 20 months ago and now shows no signs of having the virus. Researches can’t determine why it is that his virus disappeared, therefore the can’t completely credit his transplant with his recovery. This isn’t the first time that bone marrow transplants have been used to serve as a cure for AIDS. There are two other documented studies…both in the early 90’s. This case is the first to show results. Though it’s hard to say right now if science has stumbled upon a miracle, this could mean saving millions of lives around the world.

Firefighters will need at least until midweek to get control of wildfires that have destroyed more than 900 homes and other structures in Southern California, a Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesman says.High winds have fanned blazes from Santa Barbara to Anaheim since Thursday, scorching an estimated 35,000 acres of land. Sustained winds were expected to ease Monday, but locally gusty conditions and humidity in the single-digit range could continue into Tuesday, the National Weather Service predicted."If we were being very optimistic, we would be looking at the middle of the week," L.A. County Capt. Dennis Cross said. "If the weather forecast holds and we continue to get the great work being done in the last 24 hours, we're hoping midweek."The most extensive losses have been in the Oakridge Mobile Home Park in the Sylmar district of Los Angeles, where winds clocked as high as 70 mph drove a wall of flames across the hillsides and destroyed nearly 500 homes. Authorities combed through the scorched wreckage Sunday in an effort to account for the park's residents, only 134 of whom had been accounted for earlier in the day.No bodies were found during the search, and police believe most of those living in the 608 mobile homes fled the fire, Deputy Police Chief Michael Moore said. But he urged those who escaped to call in and let investigators know they survived.Crews were still struggling to contain the blazes Sunday afternoon.

A Canadian man helped kill his 12-year-old girlfriend's parents and younger brother because the girl told him it was the only way they could be together, a prosecutor said on the first day of the man's trial.Prosecutor Ramona Robins said Monday that she intends to prove that the girl was the motive and Jeremy Steinke, now 25, was the means behind the triple killing in April 2006.The girl has already been convicted of three counts of first-degree murder and is serving a 10-year sentence as part of a rarely used intensive rehabilitation program."Mr. Steinke would do anything for [the girl], and that included participating in the planned and deliberate murders of her parents and little brother," Robins said. The bodies of the girl's parents and 8-year-old brother were found by a neighborhood friend of the boy in their Medicine Hat, Alberta, home.Robins said the evidence will show that Steinke actually confessed to the murders. She told the jury they would hear testimony from an undercover officer who spoke to Steinke while posing as a fellow prisoner. Steinke told the officer he tried to talk the girl out of the killings.

Doctors have given a woman a new windpipe with tissue grown from her own stem cells, eliminating the need for anti-rejection drugs."This technique has great promise," said Dr. Eric Genden, who did a similar transplant in 2005 at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. That operation used both donor and recipient tissue. Only a handful of windpipe, or trachea, transplants have ever been done.If successful, the procedure could become a new standard of treatment, said Genden, who was not involved in the research. The results were published online Wednesday in the medical journal, The Lancet. The transplant was given to Claudia Castillo, a 30-year-old Colombian mother of two living in Barcelona, who suffered from tuberculosis for years. After a severe collapse of her left lung in March, Castillo needed regular hospital visits to clear her airways and was unable to take care of her children.Doctors initially thought the only solution was to remove the entire left lung. But Dr. Paolo Macchiarini, head of thoracic surgery at Barcelona's Hospital Clinic, proposed a windpipe transplant instead.Once doctors had a donor windpipe, scientists at Italy's University of Padua stripped off all its cells, leaving only a tube of connective tissue.

Fourteen-year-old D’Zhana Simmons of South Carolina lives 4 months with no heart, leaves the hospital. Simmons says she felt like a "fake person" for 118 days when she had no heart beating in her chest. Since July, she's had two heart transplants and survived with artificial heart pumps — but no heart — for four months between the transplants. Last spring D'Zhana and her parents learned she had an enlarged heart that was too weak to sufficiently pump blood. They traveled from their home for a heart transplant. But her new heart didn't work properly and could have ruptured so surgeons removed it two days later. They did something unusual, especially for a young patient: They replaced the heart with a pair of artificial pumping devices that kept blood flowing through her body until she could have a second transplant. This “fake heart” was in D’Zhana for four months. She was able to receive a real heart on October 29th. Doctors say she’ll be able to do most of the things teenagers do.

Clean people are less judgmental. A new study shows that when a person feels physically clean they are not as critical on others as when they do not feel clean. When a person feels warmth they tend to be more positive and if a person feels isolated or “cold” they are less social. This is evident in situations where a criminal has committed an awful act and they try to “clean” themselves of imaginary blood.

Some of those predictions included when students would die. Pelahatchie High School students called the 16 WAPT newsroom convinced that an evil spirit had taken over Lashundra Clanton. This week, Sparks said one of his classmates came to school in tears. She was speaking in a deep voice, he said, and sometimes spoke in tongues. Sparks said Clanton told students about little known facts in their past and made predictions on how some of them would die. Sparks and his classmates said they think an evil spirit possessed the girl. They were so convinced that Sparks and his friends brought bibles to school and had a devotional. Clanton said she admits she spoke in tongues and made predictions for her classmates. But she said it was God speaking through her, not the devil. Joyce Spann said she believes God is using her daughter to touch students at Pelahatchie High School. Sparks' father said he's unsure what to believe about Clanton's experience, but he said that school officials should have told parents about what happened. Instead, they heard it from their children. Clanton continues to go to class. She said God hasn't spoken through her since Wednesday. Around town and especially in Pelahatchie's churches, people have been wondering if Clanton is delivering messages from God, from the devil or any spirit at all.

When he was asked what happened he told the people that he and his brother was kidnapped and was tortured. He said two women and a man held them hostage and beat them foe no reason. Alabama suffers defeat
On Saturday Dec. the 6 Alabama the number 1 team played Florida, the number 2 team and lost by a score of 31 to 20. This, rising the question " Didn't Florida deserve the number 1 spot all year?". All Alabama fans can say is " Well Auburn didn't even make it, did they?" Those poor Alabama have been let down so badly by their Quote "number 1 team" that they will fire off a cut down at almost anyone in their path.
